Orlando Police Chief John Mina appeared on CNN on June 16th to discuss a recent video that shows an Orlando police officer repeatedly kicking a man who appears to be sitting passively on a sidewalk curb. Chief Mina asserts that he is awaiting all the facts of the situation before he makes a decision to discipline the officers in the video and he shows no signs of stepping down as chief.
During the CNN program, the hosts of the program ask if it is ever appropriate to kick a passive individual. Chief Mina's response is a bit evasive as he contends that the video only shows a small part of the incident. He never directly answers the question about whether or not it is appropriate to kick an unarmed and passive individual. The president of a local chapter of the civil rights activist group, the National Action Network, has demanded the chief's resignation. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently investigating the incident.
