While the vast majority of police officers in Florida are highly professional and valuable members of their communities who provide protection and assistance to people throughout the sunshine state, there are rare exceptions. There are certain individuals who violate the law when it is their duty to enforce it. Orlando Police recently announced that one of their own may be one of these rare exceptions. The Department brass was certain enough of his guilt that they fired the young officer despite the ongoing nature of the cases.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that 31-year-old officer Sean Gilhuly was fired after spending the last several months on paid leave. He was arrested twice in January in drinking-and-driving related incidents. In one instance, he allegedly became combative with arresting officers and kicked out the window on a squad car. Though his criminal cases are still pending, an internal affairs investigation deemed that termination was justified.
